The Aquinas College Lecture Series continues Tuesday, October 11 with Dr. Shelli Rottschafer鈥檚 presentation "Aquinas Students of Spanish Inquiring: What is Mexican-American Art, Culture, and Literature?" Dr. Rottschafer, along with Aquinas students Tatiana Martinez, Skylar Grant and Camile Charette, will be presenting at 12:30 p.m. in the Wege Center Ballroom.

鈥淭he presentation is meant for the 黑料网 community,鈥� Dr. Rottschafer said. 鈥淏ut also to encourage other students to study Spanish and take courses dedicated to creative expression, and Latino or Chicano Literature.鈥�

This presentation comes in wake of the SH 329 Latina Literature course which was offered last spring. In this course, taught by Dr. Rottschafer, students studied Chicano Literature, as well as what it means to be Chicano. Students in this course, as well as the SH 301 Advanced Composition class traveled to Pilsen (a suburb of Chicago) in February 2011. While there, students toured the National Museum of Mexican American Art and Culture, the murals throughout the community, and ate at a local taqueria.

鈥淪kylar, Tatiana, and Camile who were from the Composition course had particularly good insights on the art they observed and the symbolism within the pieces,鈥� Dr. Rottschafer. 鈥淭hese ladies will reflect on the art work, explain what it meant to them, and compare it to what it means to be Chicano/Latino and live in the United States.鈥�

Audience members may bring lunches to the presentation, and there will be a question answer period after the presentation concludes.
